Burying my head in the sand
Lately I’ve been burying my head in the sand when it comes to money. Not completely, but compared to how I normally am regarding money, it’s a big switch.
Normally, I pay for things and enter the receipts into Quicken and my spreadsheet about every other day. And I don’t buy all that many things. I usually have a good handle on how much money I’ve spent so far for the month, on what, and whether it’s what I had in mind.
But the past few weeks? Not so much.
I’ve been collecting receipts like they were going out of style. And…ignoring them. Shoving them into my purse and sticking a few into a pile on my desk. (Which is BAD news. Pile = hidden from sight = possibly forgotten.)
This is actually what I tend to do when I’m afraid that I’ve been spending more money than I intended.
Actually, I know that I’ve been spending more money than I intended. I just don’t want to get the exact figures for a fact.
Which is silly. But this is the emotional side of personal finance. Actually, feeling this right now and becoming aware of it is good, because it reminds me of WHY I pay attention to my finances.
In short: I don’t like feeling this way!
Now, I’m off to enter those last few receipts.

I have been the same way recently, especially with the past holiday weekend. I have been spending more than usual and have been going on more weekend trips which are very fun, but have been costly.

Sounds like you may be burning out with respect to your money.
I know last year where I went through a 3-month period and didn’t care about tracking my money.
