Buying coupons

Ever wish you had a coupon for something, but couldn’t find one? Ebay is a great source of coupons. For example, I have a prescription that I want to transfer to a different pharmacy, but I wanted to be paid to do so. I’ve been watching my mail for one of those “Get $25 when you transfer a new or existing prescription” coupons, but hadn’t had any luck. So I turned to ebay. A quick search for CVS coupon revealed a number of listings. I chose one with an expiration date far enough into the future to be useful, and bid away. If your grocery store doubles coupons on sale items, it may be beneficial to buy coupons for those items as well. (But only if you will receive them prior to the end of the sale.)

Remember that when buying coupons, it’s important to keep a few caveats in mind:

1. The value of the coupon must be high enough that you’ll still be saving money even after paying for it + shipping.

2. Make sure that shipping costs are reasonable.

3. The coupon should be for a product you need and were planning to buy anyway.

4. Bid only on original coupons, and not on printouts or copies of a coupon (unless the coupon states that copies are valid or you’re willing to take the risk that a retailer may not accept it, leaving you out the money.)

5. Check the expiration dates & other restrictions. You want to be sure that you can in fact use the coupon in time (meaning it needs to arrive at your house prior to the expiration date), and that you meet all requirements for using it.

6. Check the seller’s feedback, and be sure that the vast majority of feedback is positive.

7. Bid your maximum bid close to the auction’s end time. Your maximum bid should be the most that will still allow you to save money on the item. If you get outbid, find another coupon to bid on instead. (Don’t get carried away with winning the auction, and end up losing money.)
