Checking for FDIC coverage
Being the paranoid sort sometimes, I don’t like to just take a bank’s word for it that they have FDIC coverage. (Especially if they are a bank that I’ve never heard of before.) That’s why I was happy to see that the FDIC has a feature on their web site that allows you to independently verify coverage.
It’s called Bank Find. You just enter the information you have about the bank, and then click Find. You can also lookup banks by their FDIC certificate number by choosing “More Search Options” on the site.
The FDIC also has a page on their web site about safe internet banking that has some handy tips for someone considering using an online bank for the first time.

Sounds like this would be an awesome too, if you are in the market for a new financial institution.

I don’t think you’re paranoid at all. Especially in light of what we just heard in the France banking institution that had a broker selling fraudulent stock that lost $7 billion. It’s your money and you can’t be too careful with it. If checking helps then do it. You need some insurance that your money’s in a safe place.
