Debt success stories
I love success stories, especially ones where people have paid off a debt (or even all of it, like NCN’s parents just did!
So, do you have any debt success stories to share? I’d love to highlight some, so please email me if you do at the address on the About me/Contact page.
I can’t even remember if I’ve ever posted my own get-out-of-debt story here, so here is the brief version:
My ex-husband and I tried for years and years to get out of debt, without success. Eventually we really committed to paying off our debts, signed up for CCCS, cut up our credit cards, and made payments. It felt good to finally be making some headway.
Then we got divorced, and I continued paying off my share of the debts. Then I got laid off from my job. Everything except for the house and my student loan was paid off by that point, so I put my student loan in deferment. (Or was it forbearance? I forget.)
Then I got married again.
Meanwhile, my student loan just sat there. And sat there, and sat there, and sat there. For years. Until June of 2006, in fact, when I decided, hey, why don’t I pay this thing off and be done with it? I still owed $9759.46 at that point.
By October of 2006 it was gone!
Yup, years of it hanging around, and it was eradicated in about 4 months.
I’m still not sure how I paid off nearly $10,000 in that little time, but I did it.
Probably the real answer is focus, and finally kicking things into gear.
I can’t wait til I can post about having our house paid off, which is the final step that my husband and I are working on.
