Who writes cheques anymore, anyway? I write just one, for the rent. And I check my balance online regularly (2-3 times a week).

You didn't have an option for it, but I balance my checkbook (Excel spreadsheet) about every 4-5 days. I simply display my online statement that is updated a couple times per day and put my updates in Excel.

I never balance my check book. The only thing I use my checking account for are my rent check with is sent using an eletronic check directly from my checking account, and my student loan payment which is an automatic transfer. Everything else I pay for by credit card and I pay those on line from my savings account. I track all my spending on excel on a daily basis, so I know where all my money goes, and I check all of my accounts on-line at least four times a week. Occasionally, I need to deposit a random check into my account, or take out $40 because I need some cash, but that is rare. Balancing a check book just seems redundant to me, since I hardly ever use hecks and I always know exactly how much is in my account.

Interesting, a lot of people have replied that they do it more often than once a month. I track my money every day too (inputting receipts into Quicken and my spreadsheet) but to me that isn't the same as balancing my checkbook. I always figured that I need to actually see my statement for that.
