Doh!

A new article is posted each day on Blunt Money, where you get plain talk about money and personal finance. If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

The one day I don’t check first thing in the morning to be sure my post actually published, it didn’t. (Guess that’s what happens when I forget to click “publish”.) Oh well, you can see what I meant to post today tomorrow instead. Meanwhile I’ll use this opportunity to respond to one of the comments left earlier:

I’d like to know how is the not paying Escrow, and paying the insurance and taxes yourself going?

It’s going great so far. I get a mental boost each month by seeing our lower “minimum” required mortgage payment, and by seeing the savings allotted to our own monthly version of escrow grow as interest is added to it. I also recently paid our property taxes online for the first time with no issues. I just had to shoot off a letter to the lender afterwards with a copy of the receipt. Next up will be our homeowner’s insurance, but that’s not due for quite a while. In fact I’m not sure when it’s due, but I’ve got it written on my calendar so I don’t need to worry about it until I see it. (I went ahead and wrote in the 3 due dates for the year, along with a note to myself on the last day of the year to do the same for the following year.)

I’m considering doing this…..or atleast asking if my mortgage company will allow it.
