Emails from Christmas past

I got an email this morning that said:

(The following is an e-mail from the past, composed on Monday, December 26, 2005, and sent via FutureMe.org)

The Christmas cards you bought last year are in the garage with the Christmas stuff.

Why am I posting this email on a personal finance blog? Because if you’re like me and shop early for gifts and other Christmas-related things to take advantage of the after-Christmas sales, you may have the same problem I do:

- remembering THAT you bought something,
- WHAT you bought,
- and WHERE the heck you put it!

Buying something ahead of time at a great price isn’t really a deal if you wind up spending more money buying multiple gifts for the same person later (because you forgot where you hid the first gift.) Nor is it a deal if you wind up with a growing stack of Christmas cards that you’ll never finish sending because you keep adding to the pile each year…

So, check out FutureMe.org and give your memory and wallet a break. It really does work. (And all you’ll have to do at this point is remember to send yourself the email in the first place.)

** Edited to add: Oh, bother. The emails have to be at least a year out. I just tried to send one that was less than a year away (333 days instead) and it came up with a notice that said something like “we’re not a reminder service, we want you to be profound”. I found finding out where I put the Christmas cards very profound! It made me happy ;) At any rate if you want to remind yourself of something less than a year out, apparently there are “reminder services” out there.
