Every month is an unusual month
I’ve said that “every month is an unusual month” more than once, but boy it’s getting old. It would be very nice to have a real unusual month in December: one where I don’t have any unplanned expenses.
You see, I’ve been working on getting my expenses down to under $2000 per month (which still includes a very small additional payment to the mortgage). For the last two months I’ve gotten really close: $2136.06 and $2037.46. I thought I was finally going to hit the magic under-$2000 number this month (even with Christmas shopping factored in) until I decided at the last minute to make a doctor’s appointment. I’ll have to pay for it in full myself (at least temporarily) because this particular doctor has you self-submit to insurance, so…over $2000 I go. I suppose I could have put the appointment off another week in order to meet my goal, but that seems silly.
Maybe if I make a real stretch goal of $1500 per month instead, I’ll be able to hit under $2000?

If you are me, and you are crazy, you do the opposite. You raise your limit to about $2500 and somehow the next month you magically come in under the original goal of $2000.
At least, that’s how my grocery budget seems to work. lol.
I admire your under $2000 goal! Maybe once I am all-but-mortgage-debt-free i can aspire to a similar one. Although with inflation it’d be more like $2500 by the time that happens…. heh. Just my mortgage and minimum debt payments hit me at about $1600 a month so then I’d have very little left for well, electricity and water and food. lol

Keeping your expenses that low is a great goal to have, and eventually you’ll make it.
