Finally started our taxes
I finally started our taxes last night, and am making slow-but-sure progress on them. Actually, I shouldn’t say “finally” since this is actually pretty early for me to be doing them. Usually I wait until very close to (or on) the deadline. It’s not because I’m a procrastinator either — it’s just that that’s usually when we finally get all of the information needed to do them.
This year I decided to enter everything but what we usually wait on in an effort to get a head start. Plus I wanted to get a better idea of what I will owe in long term capital gains, so that I have some time to get used to the amount. I’m probably strange in that I actually like doing taxes, but that may be because I grew up hearing about them. (My grandparents had a tax business.) Do you do your taxes yourself, or have someone else do them?

I have someone else do them. My roommate is fanatical about doing her own taxes. She likes to feel in control. I prefer to have someone else do them simply because I don’t feel like learning all the tax laws, governing what I can and can’t declare. I’d rather cook.

I do my own taxes. I use the freebie from the IRS website, HR Block. Already filed and received my refund and put it towards my car payoff.
