For me, sleepy Saturday follows Black Friday

So I went out shopping yesterday morning for Black Friday. Not too early (I got to the stores at 7am) but certainly much earlier than I would on a normal day. I didn’t really have anything in mind that I wanted to get at most of the stores I went to — I just like to go out that day and people-watch. So, that’s what I did, for the most part.

Most of the stores weren’t crowded at all, except for Best Buy & Dick’s. Best Buy was the worst, but even that was not nearly as packed as in previous years. It was a little odd seeing empty cash registers in some stores, with no waits at all. Nice for me, but not so nice for the stores I’m sure. I ended up getting the rifle I’d been considering for the past 6 months — the only potential purchase that I had in mind. I figured I may as well get it when I can pay $50 less than I would have otherwise on it and the associated paraphernalia.

Did you venture out? If so, did you get anything or just people-watch? Most of the people who answered SquawkFox’s Squawkback said they were staying home yesterday. Maybe they spent their time reading articles like these instead:

The Writer’s Coin explains how money seems to legitimize everything.

Millionaire Mommy Next Door tells how to find your zingers. (No, not the food kind of zingers. Do they even still make those?)

Clever Dude cracks me up with his comments on being more thankful than those little brats.

Canadian Capitalist doesn’t think Warren Buffett is losing his touch. (I don’t either.)

Four Pillars rants about the death of index investing and other silly stats.

I usually try and avoid shopping on Black friday; to me it seems too stressfull with all the people and traffic and such.

I’m not sure if you are into guns or not but if so, have you ever considered checking out pawn shops? I’m not into guns but we do sometimes go to pawn shops and I always notice the abundance of firearms. I’m sure if ou use the ‘Is that the best price you can give me’ a few times on them you can get an unbelieveable deal.

Neko, no, I’m not really into guns. I just wanted the rifle to do some plinking with at the target range.
