Free office suite
Let me introduce you to OpenOffice, a free office suite. It includes a word processor, spreadsheet program, presentation program, drawing program, equation editor, and database program. Best of all, it supports a huge number of commonly used formats (such as .doc, .xls, .vor, etc) – which means that you can choose to save and open documents in those formats in addition to the others provided by OpenOffice. It’s also open-source, and can be used for both commercial and non-commercial purposes free of charge. According to their web site, OpenOffice runs on Microsoft Windows, GNU/Linux (“Linux”), Sun Solaris, Mac OS X (under X11), and FreeBSD. It’s a great way to save money on software.

My next PC will have OpenOffice, I’m sure. It does look really nice, and certainly a lot cheaper than the commercial solutions.

I have used Open Office for a while, I love that I can easily create pdfs and send them- I’m lazy like that!
