Garden experiment #2

We’re lucky enough here to have two growing seasons, which is a good thing since my first-ever attempt at gardening didn’t produce very many edible results. (We got one carrot out of the deal. One!) But I did learn a lot from it, so much so that my corn has gone from this:

Attempt #1
Stunted Corn

To this, so far:

Attempt #2
Corn

So from a maximum height of 3 ft tall during attempt #1, to a (so far) height of about 6 feet sounds promising. I so hope we get some good ears from it. We are also likely to triple our carrot-yield, since there are 3 growing this time. Plus I have two snap pea plants that are just a few weeks old.

The biggest thing I’ve learned from this experiment is that gardening takes a lot of skill and practice. And there are so many reasons to bring the idea of a home-garden back: healthier local food being chief among them. I’m looking forward to what the next few weeks will bring.

Wow, what an improvement! My corn totally bombed this year – I haven’t tried a Fall crop. How many do you have growing in how large an area in that picture?

There are probably 16 or 20 (I sort of planted them haphazardly) in an area that’s about 3ft x 4ft. I hope that they continue doing well.

We started made our first garden attempt this year and have gotten equally disappointing results. While I’ve learned alot, I need to do lots more reading, etc to make sure this next time is much more successful. May get some carrots and squash and that’s about it this go around.
