Contact your local Cooperative Extension Service/Master Gardener. You will find the phone number in the County or State government listings usually under Education or Higher Education. It started as part of the land grant college - state university now.

This is a department funded thru your tax dollars. They offer tons of free or very low cost information on anything related to your daily living. So they will have info on planting times, best variety of vegggies, recipes for them, insect damage, and so on. Usually you can find a terrific web site also. I live in SW Florida and my 'spring' is now - so I've been planting - using info from the Extension. Even after 4 years down here it still seems weird - it should be harvest time!! Good luck.
