Getting a wardrobe consultation
I’m going to be signing up to work with a wardrobe stylist pretty soon. I need it, because my clothing style could probably most charitably be termed “relaxed”.
That’s not a big deal where I work (people there show up in sweats and mismatched t-shirts, so I’m sadly still better dressed than many) but I’d just like to feel a little bit better about what I wear.
It seems like kind of a frivolous expense, but oh well!
Besides, planning ahead = spending less money long term, so that will be good.
For now I’m going to ask the stylist to suggest the types of clothes that would look best on me, and the styles I should avoid. I’m not ready to buy more clothes just yet, but I think this will help me plan out what to buy when I am. I believe that she will come to my house and give feedback on what I already own. Hopefully there will be something left in my closet when she’s done…
She will also shop with you, which might be interesting. My current shopping method consists of trying on pretty much everything in my size and then seeing how it fits and looks. It would probably save time to only try on the things that are likely to look good.
Her rates are pretty reasonable, and a friend gave a rave review, so I’m looking forward to it.

This does seem like a frivolous expense, but it’s your money and in the right situation I’d consider it too. Do a follow-up about the process and let me know if it’s worth the investment. Speaking of investment, how much does it cost?

I think this sounds fun. Nothing wrong with treating yourself once in awhile and it sounds like in the long run, it will save you time and money. I do hope you post before and after pics! That would be fun!

I don’t think it sounds frivolous at all. The expert might save you lots of money on directing you towards clothes that makes you feel good (preventing you from buying mistakes that you only wear once). Besides, it’s unfortunate, but we are judged by how we look. A sharp looking outfit in an interview, or a meeting with a client, could net you better pay.

We’ll see how it goes :)
I believe it’s $25 per hour, but I haven’t heard back from the person yet to confirm.

What a great idea.
I was thinking of doing this recently, too.
It’s so important to have a great first impression – unfortunately, some people judge you only on how you look.
