Home loans

With all of the talk about sub-prime loans and predatory lending out there, I thought I’d mention an organization that is not predatory: ACORN Housing. In fact, they provide refinance and foreclosure assistance. Their parent organization, ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) does have a political agenda, but Acorn Housing itself is a nonprofit that is focused on helping low to moderate income people own their own homes. They have offices across the US where HUD-certified counselors help people prequalify for mortgages. According to their web site, “homebuyers can gain access to mortgage programs with lower interest rates, lower down payments, flexible underwriting guidelines and lower origination fees” by using their program. Their services are free.
