How to tell if you eat out too often

Step one: Decide to do a “Find All” in Quicken for the Dining category, because you can’t remember the name of the restaurant you wanted to eat at.

Step two: Have your husband point out that there are 2,272 transactions showing.

Step three: Explain that, “well, but that’s over 13 years”.

Step four: Realize that 365 days times 13 years equals 4745 days. 4,745 days divided by 2,272 transactions is close to two. That means I eat out an average of…every other day!

Argh.

Maybe I’ll feel better if I figure it up for just THIS year.

Wow, I’m so impressed that you’ve been tracking your expenses for 13 years!

That’s just what I was thinking - 13 years! WOW!

Every other day is pretty often. I’m not sure that’s the sort of statistic I want to keep about myself, although it would probably be good for me.

13 years, wow! I don’t keep track at all so I only know my expenses to the nearest $100. My calculation would look something like 13*365/2*$10 ~ $23000 + change.
