Making my 2006 IRA contribution
According to the IRS web site, “You can contribute to either a traditional or Roth IRA until the April due date for filing your tax return for 2006, not including extensions.” And it’s a good thing too, because I recently added “Fully fund my IRA each year” to my list of goals for the next few years. So I logged on to my plan today and made my last contribution for 2006.
In the past I had funded it very haphazardly — contributing nothing some years, a few hundred dollars other years, and a couple of thousand dollars on very rare occasions. (It’s probably not too surprising that I don’t have very much in there.) But I’ve made the commitment to change things, starting now with my 2006 contribution. Hey, this is one goal you can achieve retroactively.
