One down, one to go
Suitcases, that is. Last night at about 8pm we got a call from what my husband at first thought was a salesperson. Instead, it turned out to be the luggage delivery service calling from outside our front door. I’m very happy to see at least one of the suitcases — this one was the one that visited with us in Rome, and then was lost again on the return trip. It’s the one that had some of the brand new clothes in it, so I’m glad about that.
It’s amazing how much it costs for just basic clothing — especially things like underwear and socks. We’ll be getting new suitcases too, because this one has seen better days and was a little beat up. Plus I want to get just carry-on suitcases for future trips, with maybe a small cosmetic case for things like contact solution and toothpaste. I’m still not sure what the airline will do as far as reimbursement goes, but I guess we’ll find out.

That’s why it is important to take stock of, and photograph if at all possible, all your clothes. Heaven forbid there’s a fire or flood or other natural disaster, your clothes will be very expensive to replace.

Your suitcase goes on vacation and gets beat up. Poor thing.

When my mom travels overseas each summer, she takes a set or two of clothing in a carry-on (usually a backpack) in case her luggage gets lost. She instructs all the students traveling with her to do the same thing. They also carry some of their (non-liquid) toiletries and all medications in the carry-on backpack.
Hope you get it all worked out soon!
