One major project completed
We finally completed one major project on our house: all of our (crappy!) windows have now been replaced with dual-pane, low-e, argon-filled windows. And as a bonus, they’re all shiny and clean. It’s such a relief to have that done. We’ll spend less money on heating and cooling, and be more comfortable in the house too.
Projects like that don’t come cheap, so we did it a little bit at a time. In fact it’s taken us almost exactly a year to get it done. But although we paid a little bit of a premium to do it that way (due to gas surcharges) there was NO WAY we would have even considered charging it. And we didn’t want to just save up until we could complete the entire project at once, because even 2-3 windows at a time would help with our energy costs and comfort levels.
It’s very nice to have that done.

Replacing our windows is something I think about periodically, for the same reasons you said – ours are quite old and I’m sure they’re not in the least energy efficient.
Can you please talk about how you chose your windows and the process of replacing them? (Did you do it yourself, and if so, how hard was it? If not, how did you find someone to do it?)
And if you don’t mind sharing, can you discuss cost also?
Thank you!

Sure, I’ll do a post about that in a few days.

This is something we’re going to have to do in the next year or two; did you look into any grant programs in your area to help make this happen. I know locally we can get a subsidy by doing this.
I’m with the Chief Family Officer I would be very interested in hearing how you chose your windows and what options you had to choose from.
