Overheard at the bank

I heard the customer in front of me at the bank say, “I’m a server, not a stripper.”

The teller looked up, confused. “What?” she asked. (I was wondering if I’d heard right myself.)

The customer gestured at the cash spread out in front of her, and then repeated herself.

I guess having a decent amount of cash to deposit is such a strange thing now that she felt the need to explain herself.

Servers deposit, on a weekly basis, hundreds of $1 bills. I’ve wondered what, if anything, tellers have thought about my bi-weekly visits. Especially the time I deposited over a thousand dollars in 1’s, 5’s, and a few 20’s. But there must be thousands of servers in this town, vs. hundreds of strippers. No reason to jump to conclusions.

Having worked as a waitress before, it’s definitely not unusual to deposit lots of small bills regularly. But I’m guessing that she probably had someone ask her if she was a stripper based on the amount of low denomination bills…so she probably became self-conscious about it. But it is funny!!!

That’s a funny story. I figure if you’re putting money in the bank, you got it legally because why else would you put it there?? ;)

When I worked as a bank teller, I always assumed that people who came in with a wad of one dollar bills were either waitresses or strippers, so the comment makes total sense to me!

Gee that’s funny. When I was a server I always cashed out my tips into 20’s with the restaurant. They can always use the change and I don’t want to carry a bunch of small bills around.

My best friend is a server and she gets looks at the bank all the time, she never felt the need to explain though. Ha!
