Random money memory time
I was thinking about coupons the other night when I remembered something my mom & I did when I was a kid. We used to go to McDonald’s for supper a couple of times a month, and we all got Quarter Pounders. One day we went in, and they had a promotion where if you bought a Quarter Pounder, they would give you a postcard to mail to a friend. The friend would then bring in the postmarked postcard and exchange it for a free Quarter Pounder. I remember my mom looking at that postcard and saying “It’s too bad we can’t use this”. I piped up with “Why can’t we? We can just mail it to ourselves.” So she did, and sure enough they let us use it. They even gave us another postcard to send off again for every one that we turned in. So we got free burgers that way for awhile. It sorta seemed vaguely wrong to do that, but the only restriction written on the card was that it had to be postmarked. Now, if only I could find a deal on airline miles like this guy did.

Since there was no restriction, I would have done it that way too.

Lately, I have noticed that companies are using receipts as coupons. Have you looked at a Burger King receipt? If you go and do a phone survey, they will give you a free chicken sandwich or whopper with the purchase of any size fries and any size soda. If you do this, it comes to about $3.00 a value meal. I do the phone survey once, keep the code, and use the same code every time I get a receipt. I also notice that panda express is now doing this too. They five away a free side with a purchase of a meal. So if you normally get a 3 item plate you can now get it for the price of a 2 item plate.
