The best motivator is what ever works. For some it will take all of the motivators you mention. Others may have to be off fast food to get the appreciation for real food back.

It is like smoking. Some people know they will get cancer but smoke anyway. One good thing, once you get cancer, from other than smoking that is, it is possible there is time to make dietary changes that can save your life.

Kind of a novel idea that the cure for cancer lies in the foods we eat.

Even more interesting, MSG is in most processed and fast foods. Then there are drugs for migraines, seizures, Parkinson's, and bi-polar that are all glutamate blockers. Talking about things that make you go hmmmmm.

Best wishes and good health to you.

Eat less beef! Go for the pork, chicken and fish. “Cattle are fed prodigious quantities of corn. At a feedlot of a mere 37,000 cows, 25 tons of corn are dumped every hour. It takes 1.2 gallons of oil to make the fertilizer used for each bushel of that corn. Before a cow is slaughtered, she will eat 25 pounds of corn a day; by the time she is slaughtered she will weigh more than 1,200 pounds. In her lifetime she will have consumed, in effect, 284 gallons of oil. Today’s factory-raised cow is not a solar-powered ruminant but another fossil fuel machine.” SEE: http://www.earthsave.org/environment/foodchoices.htm
As for reducing cholesterol, Fish actually helps reduce it!

I couldn't agree with you more! I hope your post helps some people get off the unhealthy fast food track, and get back to some nutrition. After seeing the movie “Super-size Me”, I started bringing my lunch. I have lost weight and feel so much better! I find I don’t need as much food as they serve up in a restaurant, and the food I bring is better for me. It’s no trouble, yogurt, fresh fruit, fresh veges, maybe a sandwich now and then, or leftovers I can heat-up. More people should try it!

I agree that home-made natural foods will save you money but it certainly does not save you time. I can run to the cafeteria at work in one minute. It takes a few hours to make a good meal plus the time that's required to go shopping for it all. Microwave meals are my new best friend.

I followed this advice this last year by stopping the "lunch run" every day. I was spending between $8 and $10 per day by not packing my lunch. When I went shopping at the grocery store, I was stunned that $30 could buy 2 weeks worth of lunches! This included a full sandwhich, with veggies and deli meats, slice cheese and fruit. I was eating healthier for cheaper. Best of both worlds!
