The 4-Hour Workweek

I’d heard about The 4-Hour Workweek (affiliate link) a few places online, and went to the 4-Hour Workweek site to check it out. The site looked a little bit infomercial-ish to me, so I was skeptical, but I got a copy of the book to review anyway.

I’m very glad I did.

The book is organized into four major sections plus some introductory and end material. The sections detail the steps you’ll need to take to change your lifestyle: Definition, Elimination, Automation, and Liberation (D.E.A.L.). These steps aren’t like what you find in most books though: they aren’t heavy on theory and light on specifics. I’ve finished many a book designed to changed my life and thought “yeah, but how do you DO it?”. That wasn’t the case here. There are lots of specifics, down to web sites to contact and companies to work with that the author has either used himself or believes has a good reputation. There are also exercises designed to challenge you and push you out of the status-quo.

I was surprised to see that I was already doing a few of the things mentioned in the book: being on a low-information diet, taking steps to eliminate interruptions, being unreasonable at times, and (working on) automating income. As I read the book, I immediately began doing another thing he suggested, and found myself with hours of extra time. That’s a lot for someone who is usually busy non-stop from 6am-10pm each day. I did a combination of two things: not checking email constantly and getting the bulk of my work done before 11am. (I’m still working on getting it ALL done before 11am.) Mostly, it boiled down to doing the things I really wanted to accomplish that day first. I intend to go through the rest of his suggestions as well.

I highly recommend this book, and I’d give this copy away to a reader, but I’ve already highlighted the heck out of it, and am going to be using it.

hehe, I wondered the same thing! Although he does have a fitness-related business, so maybe that’s to show him in an athletic light.
