The Nontoxic Avenger strikes again
(And I hope she continues to strike, and strike, and strike.) I’m referring to the book by Ellen Sandbeck called Organic Houskeeping. Before you turn up your nose at the idea of reading about cleaning, let me tell you that this book ranks right up there with the Tightwad Gazette in my mind.
It’s fabulous, funny, and practical too. Organic Housekeeping is packed with useful tips that can save you money and improve your household environment. Coincidentally, I started reading it the same day that I had to leave work early due to the effects of toxic fumes, so I was especially open to the book’s ideas.
It covers everything from clutter to organic gardening. Topics are organized into nine chapters, with a variety of subheads to help highlight specific topics. It also has one of my favorite things — a well organized index that makes it easy for you to flip right to anything from mosquito fighting methods to dish washing.
I checked it out from the library, but will probably actually go buy it now that I’ve read it, because there are so many ideas in it that I’d like to implement. (And that’s saying something, since I almost never buy books.) My library copy is covered with little page-markers at the moment.
If it isn’t obvious by now, I highly recommend this book to anyone who’s looking to save money AND live in a healthier house.
