There’s more to do
We finally got our estate planning documents signed & notarized, and I’m very happy that step is done. I feel better knowing that I have given the future gift of less stress and confusion to loved ones. (Things are stressful and devastating enough when someone you love dies without having to deal with a mass of uncertainty.) It’s especially important if you have a child or live with/are married to someone.
However, just having the documents prepared and getting them signed wasn’t enough. We’ve also got to go through and make sure that all of our beneficiaries on things that are not handled via will/trust are up-to-date and accurate. This includes things like the house title, 401(k) accounts, IRAs, bank accounts, and more. And it’s a good thing that we did, because so far every single thing we’ve checked has been outdated and or not they way it should have been. I’ll be glad when these final steps are done as well.
