Time to take my car in
Well it looks like it’s time to take my car in to the doctors…er, to take my car in to the mechanics.
My poor little car lurches sometimes while driving at freeway speeds, acting like it’s not getting enough gas. And then today the check engine light came on briefly. So I guess it’s off to the mechanic.
I’ve had this problem sporadically in the past but it looks like it may be reproducible for the mechanic now that it’s warming up outside.
I can’t keep driving it like this, since it could be dangerous if it randomly lost power while I was crossing an intersection or something.
I may try to take it by an auto parts store to see if they can tell me what the check engine light code is. I don’t know if that would help me, but I suppose finding out can’t hurt.
While my car is in the shop I’ll see if I can get a better quote on getting the AC fixed. I sooo do not want to pay a small fortune to get that fixed, but on the other hand, I’m really not looking forward to yet another summer without AC.
Here’s hoping that the total to fix the lurch (at the very least) is something reasonable.

Good luck with the car! This has happened to me twice in the past two months (luckily the problem was covered under warranty both times). I don’t think the auto parts store will be able to help you unless they have the computer to hook it up to to decode the check engine light (at least that was what my regular mechanic told me)

I’m curious to know what is wrong… my husband’s car does the same thing.
He also has a bad AC. weird.

Thanks, hopefully it’s something inexpensive!

Yes, please let us know how it turns out.
Ours does it bad when the tank is nearly empty. We can’t let it get below 1/4 of a tank or else it’s really bad.
Moving over 1300 miles with this was a real problem (that’s when it started happening – once we got into the Texas heat it seemed).
Funny too, our A/C is messed up as well? Common factor? I would if it’s a contributing factor?

My car was doing that and then the check engine light came on. It turned out all it needed was new spark plugs and wires. Nothing major. Sounds like yours could be that simple too.

I have a 94 Tempo and it would have cost me $500 to fix the AC – I said forget it, but driving in the summer is hell.
Anyways, preventative maintenance is the key to keeping a car running a long time.
