What to do with old computers

With technology leaping ahead by the second, people are often left with outdated (but still perfectly fine) computers & printers that they no longer want. Surprisingly, it can be hard to find takers for such items. I’ve had good luck with dropping them off at Goodwill, but if you’re having a hard time finding a place to take items like that off your hands, try these two sites that were recently mentioned in Reader’s Digest: Share the Technology and Throwplace.com. You may also want to check with the company you bought the item from originally: some offer to take them back from you, recycle them, or can point you to places that do.

I recently sold a 3 year old computer on craigslist.com. I paid $1000 for the computer, and was able to sell it for $300.

I am sure the buyer probably stripped it and sold some of the parts, most likely for more than the $300 he bought it for. However, it was a fair price for me!

Yet, if you do donate to a local organization, you can get the tax write-off!

There are quite a few collectors out there who collect vintage computers. One of these will often pay a premium sum to fill that missing spot in his/her collection.
