You’re Broke Because You Want to Be
So says Larry Winget, in the title of his latest book, and I have to agree with him. (It’s subtitled How to Stop Getting By and Start Getting Ahead.)
I had never heard of Larry Winget before (because I live under a rock and don’t get TV, let alone cable) but he is the star of the TV show called Big Spender. His personality really comes through in the book: brash and no-nonsense. He tells it like it is, and it’s funny to read, especially if you’ve already gone from brokeness to getting ahead. If you haven’t, I’d imagine that his style could result in a big wake-up call, which is the idea.
The book is a short but entertaining read, and I recommended it if you are in the early stages of straightening out your financial life and are willing to hear it like it is and accept responsibility for changing your life. It includes worksheets and advice mixed in with him alternately “yelling” at you and then pointing out useful alternatives. He’s not called the pitbull of personal development for nothing. Personally, I love it when something is my fault, because that means I have the power to change it. Who wants debt and bad spending habits to be beyond our control?
He has a few special offers posted on his web site for early buyers of his book, so check them out.
