Every Day is an Unusual Day

Coming to the realization that “every month is an unusual month” was one of the things that helped me to get out of debt. More specifically, it helped me figure out that I had to plan better for the near and distant future.

Planning for “unexpected” events helped immensely. It also helped me recognize that the majority of the events themselves weren’t really unexpected at all. I just wasn’t thinking ahead.

Well, twenty or so years later, I’ve finally come to the realization that it’s also true that every day is an unusual day.

The other day I was extremely frustrated. “Why can’t even just one day go as planned?!” I moaned.

Well, duh. Life doesn’t work that way.

So it’s time for me to start taking that little feature of life into account. I need to start limiting the number of things I do each day to LESS than I realistically think I can accomplish; rather than limiting the number of things to EXACTLY what I realistically think I can accomplish.

(Plus, I usually overestimate my ability to complete things in a timely manner anyway. Time to face reality on that one too.)

This way if a day does turn out as planned, I’ll have time to relax. And if it doesn’t, well, I’ll have some extra time available to possibly still get stuff done.

I think this will help me achieve my goals a little easier. (Or at least with less stress.)
