Some Things All Students Need to Know

student moving london

Moving to London as a student can be overwhelming. Making a home in the one of the biggest cities in the world is a challenging enough prospect, but when you pair it up with adjusting to the rigors of university life it would make anyone feel nervous.

Fortunately, we’re here with helpful hints, tips and life hacks that can will hopefully make this seem a bit more manageable.

Find Your Friends

It can be difficult making friends when you’ve first moved to a big city. London can be punishingly anonymous and unwelcoming. As a student, though, you have access to an important resource: tens of thousands of other students who are all in the same boat. The university system gives you plenty of opportunities to build a support network that could last the rest of your life.

If you don’t immediately get on with the people you live and study with, don’t despair! Look into the clubs and societies organized by your university or college. There’s a group for any interest or pursuit you can imagine, so whether you want to discuss comics, play hockey or stage musicals you’ll find like minded friends waiting.

If you do find yourself feeling isolated and depressed, don’t suffer in silence. You can reach out for help via your student union if you find yourself in distress.

Get Used to Moving House

Whether you spend time in University Halls of Residence or privately-run student accommodation to begin with you’ll probably have to move at least once during your studies, and more likely two or three times.

This can be stressful but it’s also a chance to move around and get to know different bits of London so look at it as an opportunity. Halls of residence are often in the middle of town, giving you a unique first year experience, but your second and third years give you a chance to move around, trying out boroughs and suburbs till you find somewhere that really feels like home.

Your Student Union should be able to provide advice and lists of approved landlords, so you’ll have somewhere to start looking, you won’t need to worry about not getting a fair deal.

Take some of the stress off by looking into storage facilities so you don’t have to move everything in one hectic day. If you’re looking for student storage London has plenty of options so you should be able to find something that will suit whatever you, you need.
